Wireless Printing

Introduction:

Wireless Printing is now accessible to users connected to the Rutgers-Newark Wireless Network. Wireless users will be able to print to any NCS computing lab. The SSID or network name for the Rutgers-Newark Wireless Network is NCS-WLAN. To print, the NCS printer program must be installed.

Supported Operating systems:

  • Windows 7 (32-bit/64-bit)
  • Windows Vista (32-bit/64-bit)
  • Windows XP (32-bit/64-bit)

Supported Operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.4: Tiger
  • Mac OS X 10.5: Leopard
  • *Mac OS X 10.6: Snow Leopard

NCS Printer driver installation package:

The NCS printer driver install package is fully automated and will install the drivers that you need in order to print.

When printing, please select the closest printer from the drop down list in the print dialog window.

FAQ:

How do I know what printer I am printing to?
When you select ‘ok’ to print, a dialogue box will appear with a selection of printers. All of the printers in the labs are assigned an ID based on the building, its location/lab and a unique letter/number. For example: One of the printers in the Dana Reference LAB has the ID ‘DANAREF’. All of the printers have signs indicating their ID.

How do I configure my Linux laptop to print wirelessly?
Currently only Windows and Mac OS X is supported. A Linux driver is in development.

Will I be able to utilize the color printer?
Color printers are available to wireless users.

Can I print from home or off campus?
No. printing is available only from the Rutgers Newark Wireless Network and the computer labs.

Can I print from the dorms?
Print from the dorms is available only from the Rutgers Newark Wireless Network.

 

Trouble Shooting:

I am connected to the Rutgers Newark Wireless Network (NCS-WLAN) but I get an error message when I try to print?
Prior to printing, you must open your web browser and log in to the wireless network with your NETID and Password.

I am connected and logged in but I still get an error message when I try to print?
If you receive an error message that states “Failed to connect to PRINT-NEWARK or address 172.26.129.98 on port 28203”.  Your firewall might be interfering with the printing process.  Please contact the Newark computing service help desk for assistance.

When I print I don’t see the dialogue box so I can choose the building and printer.
You might not be printing to the correct printer.

The installer does not work - I am using a Mac.
Currently we are only supporting Windows. We are in the process of developing an install program for Macs.

I am unable to install the printer drivers on my Windows XP/Vista machine.
If you encounter errors while installing, your firewall might be interfere with the installation process. Please use the following instructions
Recommended installation Procedures

  1. Download the driver if you haven't done so already.
  2. Isolate your computer from the network (you should not be connected to the network wired or wirelessly)
  3. Disable your firewall
  4. Install the driver
  5. Enable you firewall
  6. Enable your disabled network connection/connections
  7. Connect to the wireless network and log in

How do I uninstall the printer driver?
Under Control Panel, select Programs and Features and Uninstall the application "Pharos".
