Secure Services

To maintain the security and integrity of the Rutgers network, connections and transmissions to host systems must be made in encrypted format.

Email (SMTP and SSL)

To use a desktop email program in conjunction with your andromeda or Pegasus account, you must set-up
your email program to
            •   Provide authentication to your outgoing server (SMTP Simple Mail Transport Protocol)
            •   Use a secure connection to the system (SSL Secure Socket Layer)


FTP (SFTP)
To upload or download files through an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) program, you must
            •   Use a secure program such as SFTP (Secure file Transfer Protocol)

Telnet
To make interactive connections to Andromeda, Pegasus, or the campus web server, you must
            •   Use a program with SSH (Secure Shell).  Both graphical and command line versions of SSH are available.
