We are searching for people with well-rounded computer experience, strong interpersonal skills, and a positive attitude. Other characteristics we look for are ambition, enthusiasm, initiative, and professionalism. More specific skills required of applicants depend on the type of position they are applying for and are stated on the individual job descriptions.
Lab Consultant
Lab consultants might work in any of the varied computing labs which NCS operates on the Newark Campus. Consultants are the first line of assistance when someone needs help.
Responsibilities
- Unlock lab when opening the lab at the beginning of the day
- Assist clients wherever possible, obtain assistance from
Site/Lab Manager or full-time staff when necessary
- Ensure that university, campus, and lab rules are followed
- Report all unusual occurrences during the work shift to
the Site/Lab Manager
- Ensure that the lab equipment and software is operational
- Ensure that all printer paper trays are full
- Ensure that handout and document trays are filled and in
good order
- Monitor the lab to ensure an inviting computing lab
- Record usage statistics (e.g. printer cartridges replaced
and pages printed)
- Collect lab usage data (hourly head counts)
- Maintain the lab in a neat and orderly manner, including
consultant station
- Clean equipment and tables as directed
- Maintain lab reference manuals and equipment in a safe and
orderly manner
- Submit completed payroll time sheet within specified time
period
- Perform other duties as assigned
Help Desk Consultant
Help Desk consultants work directly with the campus user community. They assist faculty, students, and staff in a variety ways, including assisting them with any computing-related problems.
Responsibilities
- Provide computing assistance to campus community not limited to faculty, staff and students
- Assist clients in a thorough, efficient manner
- Log all phone calls, email, and drop-by issues into the Helpdesk Tracking software
- Create, update and maintain Help Desk documentation (handouts & web site)
- Ensure that university, campus and lab computing rules are followed
- Report all unusual occurrences during the work shift to the Helpdesk Supervisor
- Maintain the Helpdesk in a neat and orderly manner
- Maintain helpdesk reference manuals and equipment in a safe and orderly manner
- Open helpdesk at the beginning of the day and securely lock area when closing at the end of the day (depending on your shift)
- Submit your completed payroll time sheet within the specified time period
- Ensure that handouts and documentation trays are filled and in good order
- Perform other duties as assigned
ResNet Consultant (Residential Housing)
ResNet consultants provide technical support for students living in Residential Housing, including second-level support to the Help Desk for residential networking.
Responsibilities
- All the Duties of a Help Desk Consultant
- Provide technical support for Windows and Macintosh workstations to students living in residential housing (dorms)
- Configure, trouble-shoot, and resolve networking problems with their network cards and back-end networking hardware
- Configure and trouble-shoot connectivity (TCP/IP) on desktop computers
- Make minor repairs on broken network jacks in dorm rooms
- Help users secure their systems with anti-virus and firewall software
- Assist users in a thorough, efficient manner
- Report all unusual occurrences during the work shift to the Help Desk Supervisor
- Submit completed payroll time sheet within a specified time period
- Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENT: MUST LIVE IN RESIDENTIAL HOUSING
CIF Repair Technician
Coordinated Instructional Facility (CIF) Technicians assist the NCS full time staff in numerous ways, including diagnosing system malfunctions, monitoring and repairing systems. They also perform regular printer maintenance and may be working in a variety of NCS labs on campus.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support for Windows and Macintosh workstations in campus computing labs
- Configure, trouble-shoot, and resolve problems with hardware, system and application software, and new technologies
- Assist in the implementation of enhancements and additions
- Diagnose system malfunctions: floppy/hard drives, keyboards, mice, and monitors
- Perform regular printer maintenance
- Document all repairs to CIF equipment
- Assist in maintenance of physical inventory of equipment
- Keep accurate records regarding work completed and parts used
- Submit completed payroll time sheet in a specified time period
- Have the ability to lift and carry items up to OSHA standards (70 lbs) as required
- Perform other duties as assigned
